First we have the title, "Run!" which is something Gladiators aren't supposed to do. But Olivia had to, because as Dream Abby Whelan / Olivia's subconscious told her - no man was coming to save her. Olivia was smart, she was patient, she was kind and it didn't matter, because she was a mouse in a trap. A very big, complex trap set by a man who seems frighteningly sane.
In addition to the terror of being kidnapped, knowing Jake was mere feet away and couldn't help, of being taken at gunpoint by strange men, there's the sorrowful wrinkle I hadn't anticipated: Olivia is now a killer. She shot a man in the head - to escape, and may have beat another to death, at the very least he was seriously injured. None of this was unjustified, all of it will undoubtedly haunt Olivia for a long time. The worst part of joining the club that already held Fitz, Jake, Huck, Mama & Papa Pope, and Quinn is that killing didn't even set her free. "Ian" was happy to let his men be dead props to get to the bottom of what was so important about Olivia Pope. Tom could have told him. Tom could have recited a soliloquy.
In this next episode "Where's the Black Lady" we'll see the reactions of all those who love Olivia. However, I must admit, when I saw how well planned - to the second - the kidnapping was, and how many men there were, and that devastating set within which Olivia had been placed, I admit, I was plenty scared. There is no SCANDAL without Olivia, but Shonda never promised us Olivia would come through all of this unscathed.
